How is cotton produced around the world?
Cotton is undoubtedly one of the most popular raw materials used in clothing production. Unfortunately, many plantations use large amounts of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and workers are poorly paid and exposed to many health consequences due to working in an environment polluted with toxic chemicals. In many countries, children also work on cotton plantations, who are exposed to pesticides from an early age, which affects their development. Recently, there has also been a lot of talk about water shortages, and it takes 20 thousand liters to produce 1 kilogram of cotton.

What is “better cotton”?
The Better Cotton Initiative offers educational programs for farmers, and also fights for fair wages for workers and reduced pesticide and water use. Choosing BCI-certified clothing means you can be sure that you are wearing a high-quality product that was created in ethical conditions and that its production did not contribute to the degradation of the local environment and human health.

In the 2017/2018 season, licensed farmers produced 5 million metric tons of cotton, which is 19% of the world's total. The Better Cotton Initiative is celebrating its 10th anniversary, during which time it has transformed the way cotton is grown in Australia, Brazil, China, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Pakistan, Mali, Tajikistan, Turkey, the USA, as well as in Madagascar and many African countries.
